The next meeting of Bishop Auckland Civic Society will take place on Monday, 27 January at The Cricket Club on South Church Road (DL14 7JU) at 7.30pm.
Caroline Hardie, Trustee and Editor for the Friends of the Stockton and Darlington Railway, will address the Society on the topic, ‘The Stockton and Darlington Railway 1825-2025: the railway that got the world on track’.
In this talk, Caroline will discuss just what is so important about the railway, how it has been commemorated in the past and how it will be commemorated in 2025.
Professionally, Caroline is an archaeologist and heritage consultant and has written widely on railway structures, buildings and places in preparation for the 2025 celebrations.
She is the author of the illustrated Friends guided walk booklets, together with the forthcoming limited edition hardback book ‘A S&DR Pictorial Journey along the S&DR’.
She is a specialist in historic building conservation and is currently actively involved in campaigns to conserve and restore Edward Pease’s House in Darlington and Heighington Station – the earliest railway station in the world.
Entry is free to members and £3 to visitors on the door.
