St Thomas’ RC Church on Byerley Road, Shildon is to host a railway themed flower festival to mark the 200th anniversary of the railway.
Churches across the town are involved together with Shildon & District Flower Club and Forget Me Not florist.
There will be a preview evening on Thursday 4 September at 7pm, where there will be a short service of welcome followed by the opportunity to view the flower displays.
The church will also be open between 10am and 3pm on Friday 5 September for viewing where light refreshments will be served.
Entry is free, but donations in lieu of refreshments will be shared between the Teesdale and Weardale Search & Rescue Team and The South Cleveland Heart Fund.
A Parish spokesman stated that Shildon played a significant part in railway history and it is fitting that we remember the contribution made by local people.
