RAC in GNR

This week the seniors within Shildon Running & Athletics Club have been concentrating on the Great North Run (GNR).

As is tradition, the running club provided baggage officials for the GNR, doing an excellent job ensuring that the baggage is received and looked after for the runners during their run to South Shields.

This year there was an excellent showing of 16 club members running the GNR. All did themselves proud on what turned out to be a hot day for distance running.

The 13.1 mile course from central Newcastle to South Shields was completed by Colin Wild in a cracking time of 1:29:51. Stephen Scorer was the next Shildon runner in 1:42:38, David Johnston was next in 1:46:47, closely followed by Gareth Preston in 1:46:57; Anthony Richard Trowles finished in 1:47:30 with David Beadle next to complete the course in 1:50:13 and Gareth Shaw came in at 1:53:11.

Next to finish was Jeanette Turner in 1:57:36, James Ross in 2:05:47, and Hazel Johnson finished in 2:11:10.

Michelle and Tanya Williams both completed the course in 2:18:31. John Gray carried on his tradition of completing every GNR since it started in a time of 2:40:54. Emma Flynn ran in 2:46:07. Annie Pluse and Lesley Butterworth completed the run in identical times of 3:10:04.

“Congratulations to all, whether officiating or running,” said a spokesperson.
