Year 5 pupils from St Andrew’s Primary School have been the first to attend a brand new after school session in TV news production at King James I Academy.
Episode one of The Good News Show can now be viewed on the Academy’s newly launched YouTube channel, KJTV Entertainment.
King James has an extensive Primary Outreach programme with a variety of free sessions that give youngsters from local primary schools the opportunity to develop new skills by trying something different.
This is part of the Academy’s commitment to improving opportunities for families in the local area.
Primary school Headteachers can opt in to any of the sessions by contacting the Academy’s Outreach Co-ordinator and free minibus transport can also be arranged.
Alongside sessions in kickboxing, trampolining, music, drama, science, art and photography, this year the academy has introduced mini medics, codebreaking, forest school and its film production sessions.
St Andrew’s pupils used green screen technology in the Academy’s newly-created film studio to record and edit The Good News Show, which features positive stories only from around the world.
With support from Director of Learning for Media Studies, Lisa Davies-Burton, and Sixth Form media mentors, Bobbie Davison and Cai Henry, pupils first learned how green screen technology works in a fun practical session in the studio.
They then delegated the various production roles, with Oliver taking on the role of anchor, and recorded the footage for their personal segment before editing it together with appropriate backgrounds, sound effects and music.
Episode two of the show is now in the making, this time with a team of pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 from St Helen Auckland Community Primary School.
