Darlington Running Festival is set to take place on Sunday 2 August with a record number of runners expected to take part.
1,700 runners have already signed up for the 10k which is the most popular event of of the festival which includes four events in total. The fun starts in the town centre at 8.30am with the family fun run. This will be followed by the Junior 3km at 9am and the 5k at 9.30am. The10km race will start at 10.30am.
The festival offers the opportunity for spectators to support the runners in the new cheer zones and to make a day of it, by enjoying the great selection of shops, bars and restaurants on offer in our town centre.
The Darlington Running Festival gives people, businesses and support organisations across our town the chance to come together, led by the council, with the rotary club volunteering to marshal the route.
The town’s Up & Running store on High Row is also hosting a pre-festival event, ‘the run up’ on Monday 13 July in the Market Square. This event will offer music, the chance to see some running branded products and an organised run. More information will be available on the Up & Running Facebook feed in the coming weeks.
Cabinet member for economy, Cllr Chris McEwan said: “This year’s Darlington Running Festival is set to be a fun filled day for all the family. With such a positive early sign-up rate, I’m confident this will be a busy day in our town centre.
“Events like this are part of our commitment as a council to building a strong and stable economy in Darlington by encouraging residents, visitors and in this instance the running community, to come along and not only enjoy the running festival but to enjoy all our town has to offer. I hope to see more people sign up over the coming weeks.”
