At the end of the school term, Cllr Nathan Hanratty visited Byerley Road Pre-School to extend our heartfelt thanks and warmest wishes to a truly remarkable member of our community, Susan Calvert, as she embarks on a well-earned retirement.
Cllr Hanratty, attended on behalf of the Town Council and the people of Shildon, to present Susan with a beautiful floral arrangement.
For many decades, Susan has been a guiding light for young children and their families through her dedicated leadership at Byerley Road.
Her passion, patience and unwavering commitment have shaped countless early childhood experiences, laying strong foundations for learning, confidence and kindness.
Susan said that she could not count the hundreds, if not thousands, of children that have passed through the pre-school doors during her career.
She has even seen some three generations of families attend.
Under her care, the preschool has become a nurturing, joyful and safe space where children can thrive.
Her influence has left a lasting mark not only on the children she taught but also on the wider community she served.
Susan is handing over the day to day operations but will always be a phone call away.
As she steps into this new chapter, we celebrate her incredible contributions and the legacy she leaves behind.
We wish Susan all the happiness, relaxation and adventure that retirement can bring.
