Police in witness appeal after two-vehicle collision

The motorbike, believed stolen, is recovered from the scene.

Police are appealing for information following a two-vehicle collision in Bishop Auckland on Monday, 26 June. The incident involved a red Mazda 2 car and a blue and black Yamaha XT motorbike in South Church Road at around 4.30pm.

The rider of the motorbike, an 18-year-old man wearing a bright blue body warmer, made off from scene and was arrested in Newgate Street after a short foot chase. He was treated by paramedics before being taken to James Cook Hospital for treatment where he remains.

The driver of the Mazda is not thought to have been injured. The bike, which was believed to have been stolen, was also recovered and an investigation is ongoing.

Officers want to hear from anyone who might have witnessed the incident or seen the motorbike shortly before the collision. If you have any information, call 101 with incident reference number 317 of June 26.
