Shildon Police have issued a “don’t be scammed on your doorstep”, message after reports of residents being targeted in Shildon. Officers have been made aware of fraudsters knocking on doors in tears saying they have no money to get home.
Officers are asking residents to remain vigilant and not to answer the door to anyone they don’t know. Neighbours and relatives are also asked to check in on vulnerable people and report anything suspicious.
PCSO Lines and Brown have also been out on foot patrol throughout Shildon, visiting community groups, elderly and vulnerable members of the community and to provide reassurance and crime prevention advice. Door to door fraud takes many forms including pressure selling, unfair contracts, overpriced or substandard home maintenance and improvements, phone consumer surveys and bogus charity collections.

There are also a limited number of ‘Strictly no callers without an appointment and identification’ window stickers available from Shildon Police station.
