Badminton was an extremely popular sport in this area in the 1970s and 80s, reports John Yeomans.
In the late 1970s, Bishop Auckland St John’s BC ran a number Mens Doubles and Mixed Doubles teams in the Durham and Darlington Leagues. During this time the Mens Doubles team won the Darlington League 1 title for a number of years. The successful pairings were myself with Fred Birtle, Len Watson with Malcolm Cresswell and Alan Cole with George Mawson.

At the time the team’s shirt sponsor was local Builders Merchant, Ferguson-Foster. Does anyone remember them?
