Dene Valley Community Partnership, which runs the One Stop Shop in Eldon Lane, has launched a campaign to get local residents involved in restoring their community.
The community group is hoping that villagers will respond to its call for assistance in sprucing up the area by becoming involved in a residents’ group which would allow local people to raise concerns as well as consider solutions to the problems.
That very little funding is available is one reason the Partnership feels that a residents group is the best solution to tackling local issues.
“We want people to be pro-active and take pride in their area,” said operations manager Patricia Wilson.
“We have a PACT (Police and Communities Together) meeting but this is not always appropriate for dealing with everything.
“We have to try and secure funding for everything we do but we think we can make some changes using effort rather than cost.”
The Partnership has recently acquired an allotment and hopes to plant flowers around the village. It is also appealing for donations of paint to help complete the refurbishment of the café. Guitars are also wanted for a new music club.
