A resident of Auckland Park was left bewildered when, after losing her wheelie bin, found CCTV footage of a bin man throwing it into the back of the lorry and driving off.
Laura Jaques, of William Street, was then told by Durham County Council that she would have to pay for a replacement herself.
Incensed by the incident, which occurred on Wednesday 22nd February, Laura posted the footage onto Facebook, which led to six more residents in the area coming forward to say their bins had also gone missing.
The 36-year-old had previously received a letter, as did other residents, stating that households were only entitled to one rubbish bin and that they would take any extra bins away. However this was Mrs Jaques’ only bin.
She said, “It is absolutely ridiculous. The council is always banging on about recycling, but those bins will just go to landfill.
“They say that any extra bins collected would have been taken away separately and not by the bin men, but I have proof of what has happened to my bin.”
A spokesperson for DCC said, “We were most concerned to receive this film footage, which we are looking into as a matter of urgency as, clearly, wheelie bins should not be thrown into the back of refuse vehicles.”
