Last month, Blade Taekwondo, based at Bishop Middleham Village Hall, hosted a Paris Olympic Fun Day as a free event that was intended for fun social activities and learning for all.
Lead instructor, Corey Wilson, planned a day where members could meet and watch the Taekwondo competition at the Olympics on a big projected screen.
Being able to watch the broadcast together also gave them the opportunity to learn more about their sport by studying how professional athletes compete at their event.
Along with watching the Games, Blade members also took part in quizzes, kicking games, various raffles and other games, as well as colouring pages and drawings for younger members too.
“We even added a small snacks and drinks bar, with a small spread to keep them all from going hungry,” said Corey.
Blade members enjoyed the day and it was very beneficial for club learning, as well as getting members to engage with one another.
“We even had time for a much anticipated Bruce Lee film at the end of the day,” added Corey.
“With Taekwondo being a highly viewed event at Paris 2024,” he said, “we’ve seen a surge in members due to them watching the sport on TV and wanting to give fighting a go,” he said.
“We currently have two clubs, one in Bishop Middleham and the other in Hartlepool, and our membership and progress is growing every week.
“Members at Blade Taekwondo are currently working towards a grading exam and we are extremely proud of how much they’ve all progressed and learned leading up to it.”
