After more than three decades capturing unforgettable moments through his lens, award-winning wedding photographer, John Alderson is channelling his passion into a new venture – a photography course that promises to be everything mainstream education isn’t: fun, relaxed, friendly, and deeply instructive.
Having taught photography in formal education settings, John became increasingly disillusioned with the system’s obsession with paperwork, targets, and red tape.
Despite loving the act of teaching itself, he felt students were being short-changed.
“I just knew my learners deserved more than tick boxes and templates,” John says.
“Photography is an art form – it needs freedom, encouragement and real-world insight.
“That’s what I’m bringing back to the classroom.”
Now, John is launching a brand-new six-week evening course designed specifically for adult beginners and hobbyists.
The course, which will run one evening a week (4 hours, day TBC), will also include an exclusive Showcase Evening at the end – a chance for participants to exhibit their best work and celebrate their progress.
With a career spanning over 30 years, John has photographed everything from quiet elopements to grand celebrations, but his teaching has always been rooted in making photography accessible and empowering.
“This isn’t about intimidating jargon or rigid rules,” he explains.
“It’s about building confidence, understanding how to ‘see’ light and composition, and helping people fall in love with photography – just like I did all those years ago.”
The course promises expert instruction, supportive group sessions, creative exploration, and hands-on activities designed to develop technical skills and artistic vision.
