A small group of independent Christians (Salt of the Earth), have established a mini food bank for local residents in the Spennymoor area.
The mini food bank will initially operate on a monthly basis, but it is hoped to be progressively increased to a weekly basis. The initial opening was on Tuesday 30 June.
A spokesman for the group said, “We are acutely aware of the difficulties that many individuals and families are experiencing with the cost of living crisis, a situation that is likely to worsen when the full impacts of the US/Iran war are realised. As Christians, we see this as an expression of our faith. It is more than just a food bank, people will be able to come, enjoy a chat and friendship, listen to testimonies, enjoy a light snack with us and take home some free tins and dried foods”.
The project is entirely self-funded from the donations of it’s members, and receives no funding from external sources. It is available for anyone receiving benefits, who maybe homeless, or who are simply experiencing financial difficulties. There is no need to register or requirement to prove one’s status.
