A much-needed new group for families with young children is launching at Jubilee Fields Community Centre this January, thanks to the dedicated work of Community Support Worker, Caroline Dunn and NHS Family Peer Supporter, Catherine Hunter.
After two years of tireless effort, their vision has come to life, filling a long-standing gap in local support for parents and carers.
Play Together begins Monday 5 January and will run weekly from 9:30am to 11:00am. The sessions, delivered by the County Durham Family Hub team, are free, informal, and open to mams, dads, carers and their pre-school children.
Each week offers a mix of fun and developmental activities, from messy play and sensory exploration to songs and stories that support speech and language. It’s a chance for children to play and learn, and for grown-ups to connect with others in the community.
Health Visitors will also be on hand for Growing Healthy drop-ins, offering advice on feeding, sleep, toileting and more. You can get your baby weighed in line with NHS guidance. No appointment needed, just pop in for a chat.
This is a brilliant step forward for Shildon families and a testament to what local collaboration can achieve.
