Following a sensational run up to Halloween, local indie filmmaker Dean Midas has announced a sequel to his viral horror hit, The Stitcher, after the original short rocketed past 160,000 views in just three weeks.
Shot entirely on a mobile phone with zero budget, The Stitcher captured loads of attention by transforming historic County Durham locations into a sinister backdrop for screen horror.
Capitalising on the viral momentum, Midas has officially greenlit The Stitcher 2, promising to return to the region with new locations, tighter suspense, and even bigger scares—all while staying true to the mobile-first, independent production style that made the original a hit.
”The response to The Stitcher has been beyond anything we imagined,” said director Dean Midas. “Reaching 160,000 views in three weeks shows what can be achieved right here in the North East using just a smartphone. Fans have been asking where the story goes next, so I’m thrilled to confirm that The Stitcher 2 is officially in development for release next year.”
Details regarding casting and filming locations across County Durham for the sequel will be revealed in the coming months.
The original short film, The Stitcher, is available to stream now on YouTube and Facebook.
