Mayor of Ferryhill, Councillor Angus Ferguson set himself a challenge in June to take on a sponsored weight loss challenge as a way of raising some funds for his chosen charities.
The charities set to benefit from funds raised are Little Treasures Autism Charity and Stray Aid.
The Mayor’s weight at the start of the challenge was 18 stone, 7lbs, 2 ounces. In July he weighed 17stone 11lbs; he was 17stone 10lbs at the end of August and last week, when Angus visited the Town Hall for a weigh in, he was 17stone, 3lbs and 4oz, a loss of over a stone since the start of his journey.
Angus said “I’m really happy with this month’s 7 pounds weight loss: my progress towards the 16 stone barrier continues.
“From past experience and with the improvements in my general health, there is a danger of complacency setting in, so I will need to be stricter with myself when confronted with my weakness for chocolate and fruit jelly sweets. I know.
“However, a new motivation has been added as my orthopaedic consultant has encouraged me to lose more weight to lessen my need for hip replacement surgery. Onwards and upwards!”.
Cllr Ferguson is asking people for sponsorship to go towards his charity fundraising and support him in his bid to shed the pounds, with his target set at 16 stone.
He would like to thank everyone who has donated so far, and says that the support is much appreciated.

The results of Cllr Fesrguson’s weight loss challenge will be revealed before the Christmas break and a further update will be given next month.
