The Mayor’s Award for October was presented by Cllr Shirley Quinn to Thelma Cook.
Thelma is the Queen Bee of the Busy Bees and is the hardest worker in the hive and together with the worker bees has raised thousands for local charities.
Thelma works tirelessly organising stalls, raffles, tombolas and bus trips.
She loves every minute, and for her, there is no better feeling than doing good in the world to make people’s lives better and try to help everyone in need.
Prior to forming the Busy Bees, Thelma’s charity work began in Margot’s Hair Salon where she raised funds for Cancer UK by regularly having tombolas, selling items and dressing in fancy dress. She has also raised funds to purchase a hydrotherapy pool in Newton Aycliffe.
Presenting the award, Mayor Quinn said: “Thelma has the biggest heart and cares with every bone in her body and I’m delighted to be able to provide her with a token of the town’s appreciation for all her work.”
