New Spennymoor Town Mayor, Cllr Dean Ranyard, enjoyed his first official engagement on 28 May when he attended the Spennymoor Town Band and Spennymoor Youth Band concert featuring cornet player Jimmy Hayes as guest soloist. The proceeds from the concert held at Spennymoor Town Hall were generously donated to this yearโ€™s Town Mayorโ€™s Charity Appeal.

The two beneficiaries being ManHealth and Moors in the Community. Manhealth is an organisation which provides peer support groups to men struggling with depression or ill mental health.

Moors in the Community is the recently launched community foundation of Spennymoor Town Football Club. They will be looking to engage with community groups across the town, with a focus on providing activities for local youngsters.

Cllr Ranyard commented, โ€œI was extremely touched by the generosity of Spennymoor Town Band who have donated the proceeds of their concert to my Mayorโ€™s Charity Appeal in support of both ManHealth and Moors in the Community. I had the most enjoyable night with soloist Jimmy Hayes exceptional throughout the show. The Spennymoor Town Band led by Musical Director Fiona Casewell were top notch as always, and the work and dedication that had gone in was clear to see.

โ€œSpennymoor Youth Band performed a brilliant set and I was very impressed by the youngsters who stepped forward showing great confidence to deliver solo performances. Special mention to young band members Michael MacDonald (cornet) and Jak Camp (euphonium) who each performed outstanding solos.

โ€œThanks also to the amazingly talented Jimmy Hayes who very kindly donated money from sales of his CDs on the night to my Mayorโ€™s Charity Appeal.โ€

Hugh Stephenson, Vice President of Spennymoor Town Band said, โ€œThe Town and Youth Bands were delighted to perform for the Town Mayorโ€™s Charity Appeal which will support two worthy causes.โ€
