After spending over 41 years working for the same company, Marie Green took the difficult decision to retire from chemist Hancock & Ainsley, in Main Street, on 28th March.
Marie, 67, from Rosedale Crescent, started working for the chemist in January 1972 in their Coronation branch.
She said she has enjoyed every minute working at Hancock & Ainsley and that both the staff and her bosses have been lovely. “It was a hard decision for me to retire, as I will miss them all immensely,” she said.
She will now have more time to take care of her garden and to take holidays. She will also spend time knitting, embroidering and cake making.
Over the years Marie has made many cakes and taken them into the shop for the staff, which she has been told to carry on doing, even though she no longer works there!
On Wednesday 27th March the Line Dancing Club at the B.R. presented Marie with a lovely bouquet of flowers, and the next day she was gifted with a beautiful set of Waterford crystal glasses and another bouquet of flowers from her colleagues.
In the evening, all the staff from Hancock & Ainsley celebrated her special occasion at The Fat Buddha Asian restaurant in Durham City.
