Ferryhill Athletic FC has announced the departure of manager, Lee Jewett, after three years in charge.
The club’s committee released a statement on Monday (7 July) on its Facebook page saying: “Ferryhill Athletic would like to place on record their thanks to Lee Jewett, who has this week stood down as team manager.
“Under Lee’s stewardship, the club has established itself as a prominent member of the Wearside League and has consistently fought for promotion.
“The club also won the Clem Smith Bowl the season before last.
“We can’t thank Lee enough for all of his hard work and would like to wish him all the very best for the future and hope that he now has a well-earned break.
Responding to the club statement and to wellwishers, Jewett said: “Thank you so much for all the messages and kind words – I really appreciate them.
“It’s been a privilege to manage my home town team over the past three years and I’m gutted that we didn’t achieve what we set out to do, but I leave with great memories, not least winning the first trophy for the club in over forty years.
“Thanks to everyone that came out to support the team; we’ve built up quite a following both home and away.
“Thanks too to the people behind the scenes on the committee who have worked tirelessly to support me, and most of all the players, who gave me everything from the day I walked into the club. Thanks lads.”
The ambitious committee added: “An update on the managerial position will take place in due course as we seek to build on the strong existing foundations in our quest to reach the Premier League.”
