Mainsforth Amateur Boxing Club are celebrating after a successful Easter Sunday charity fundraising event at a packed out Mainsforth Community Centre.
The club raised a total of £3,120 raised for two local causes: the Kyran Richmond Fund, which received £1,500 to help promote awareness of Juvenile Batten disease, an incurable genetic neurodegenerative disorder that affects children, with the remaining £1,620 donated to Evergreen Primary School in Bishop Auckland.
Evergreen is a special school for pupils aged 2-11 with severe, profound, moderate and complex learning difficulties, some of whom also have autism.
The school is attended by the club’s head coach, Richard O’Neill’s daughter and the funds will help towards the purchase of vital equipment.
A spokesperson for the club said: “We would like to say a big thank you Michael Slater for his £500 donation on behalf of Sheltee Industrial Maintence. Also to Titch Slater for a donation of £120. To Ed Slater for donating a plaque and clock and to the many more who have helped and donated towards a great afternoon to raise money for these two great causes.
