The Locomotion Museum held a range of fun and informative events over May half term.

Locomotion had a successful exhibition week, welcoming over 3300 visitors through the half term period with high levels of participation in the museumโ€™s different learning activities. The museum has a new exhibition opening that is transferring up from the NRM in York, which is the Young Railway Photographer of the Year.

The competition was run by the Railway Photographic Society and the awards evening was held at the NRM with a selection of the winning entries on display at the NRM. Sarah Price, Director of Locomotion, said: โ€œIt was great to welcome so many visitors to Locomotion throughout May half term and over the Jubilee weekend.

โ€œThe Meccano Magic event and our own learning activities were hugely popular and it was wonderful to see so many visitors learning more about our collection through our Jubilee exhibition.โ€

From 8 June to the end of September, visitors can see a selection of images from the Young Railway Photographer of the Year competition.

Jubilee Celebrations

The exhibition, ran from 28 May until 5 June, and explored the link between Queen Elizabeth IIโ€™s reign and some of the iconic rail vehicles on display at the museum. Visitors will be able to look back on a pivotal time of change as the railways largely moved from steam power to diesel and electric alternatives.
