Local Police to Learn Sign Language

Police in Bishop Auckland are being offered sign language classes with the hope that they will be able to communicate better with people with hearing difficulties.

The nine week long course will train 17 officers and will be held at Bishop Auckland Police Station. It has been arranged by the Durham Police branch of Unison as part of a scheme to encourage people to get back into learning and make the force more accessible to the public.
