A funeral home in County Durham is providing support to local families over the festive season.
After research found that 58% of those who have suffered a bereavement find calendar events like Christmas challenging, Co-op Funeralcare Shildon has unveiled its bereavement tree. As part of the initiative, members of the local community are invited to come along and place a picture, message or ornament in memory of their loved ones.
The tree also offers a space for reflection and remembrance, while also encouraging conversation with the Co-op Funeralcare team.
Reflecting on the impact that the festive season can have on those dealing with the loss of a loved one, Tim Bloomer, Director of Regional Operations, said: “For those who have experienced a bereavement, Christmas can bring memories back to the surface and make the absence of a loved one feel even more profound. That’s why we’ve started the bereavement tree initiative, providing a comforting space for reflection and togetherness.
“Our role within the community goes beyond arranging funerals. We want to remind people that they are not alone, that there is support and a space to be heard. Sometimes the smallest gesture of remembrance can bring comfort during challenging times.”
