The back wall of Jubilee Fields Community Centre has been transformed into a vibrant, colourful mural thanks to the work of local street artist Craig Comerford, also known as ‘I Am Risk’.
Craig, who has lived in Shildon all his life, has been brightening up the town one wall at a time, bringing colour and character to the spaces that need it most.
The community centre’s back wall was one of them, a long‑standing issue where old graffiti and a failed clean‑up attempt had left white scuff marks across the brickwork. Craig visited one of the centre’s Youth Hub sessions to speak with the young people about what they’d like to see on the wall.
Using their ideas and suggestions, he went away and created two designs. Both were so strong that the centre decided not to choose between them; instead, Craig brought both to life, resulting in a bold, positive mural that reflects the imagination of the young people who inspired it.
Lesley Bowes Centre Development Co-Ordinator said, “Craig has been absolutely brilliant. Not only has he given up his time and talent, he listened to our young people and turned their ideas into something special.
“The wall had been an eyesore for a long time, and Craig’s idea to cover it completely has turned a problem into something beautiful.
“The kids are proud of what they helped inspire, and we’re incredibly grateful for his kindness, generosity and creativity.
“The mural now stands as a bright reminder of community spirit, and of the local artist who continues to bring colour to Shildon, one wall at a time.”
