Little yogis raise £70 for Children in Need

The little yogis from Prince Bishops Primary School in Coundon Grange and their neighbours at St Mary’s in Newton Aycliffe, have managed to raise £70 in aid of Children in Need.

They had been receiving lessons from primary school teacher, Beth Hayward, who has her own business in delivering yoga lessons to children aged 3-11 years.

Miss Hayward said: “The yoga lessons are a chance for young children to practise important skills such as good sitting and listening and develop their concentration and ability to be calm in a fun and engaging way. We play games and learn new ways to relax.”

The children had the opportunity to show off their skills to parents and carers on Monday 9th November and Thursday 12th November for Prince Bishops Community Primary School and St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School respectively.

Eight lessons were delivered at each school, back to back, to every class in the school, from Nursery to Year 6. The lessons typically run from 9am till 3pm.

Before the £70 was raised, Miss Hayward said: “Being charitable and helping others is key to being a good yogi so we will be collecting donations for Children In Need, while we sweat, from the adults and children attending our classes.

“In an effort to raise the children’s awareness of others and the world around them, we will spend time during our yoga lessons to think of those children who need support from Children In Need.

“We will discuss what we’re thankful for in our lives and the importance of helping others who are not as fortunate.”

Miss Hayward added: “I would like to give a big well done to the children at both schools.

“And it’s praise well earned after they did so well for Children in Need!”
