Line-up revealed for music festival

Organisers of the hugely popular Bishop Auckland Music and Arts Festival have revealed their line-up for this year’s event.

The festival will be held on the weekend of 29th and 30th June and promises stellar live performances from Bishop’s own mod influenced ‘Circuit 68’, County Durham acoustic roots band ‘Midway Arcadia’ and London indie band ‘Playmaker’ (pictured).

Playmaker, a four piece band with a classic line up of bass, drums, two guitars and two vocals, released their debut album ‘Lucky Bag’ in March and are also performing at the Love Music Hate Racism Festival in Medway, Kent, and award-winning London music venue The Barfly this summer.

For Proms fans, Andy Jackson will be conducting The Cobweb Orchestra, an award winning community orchestra which takes classical music to unusual places, including recent performances in Newcastle’s Grainger Market and Central Bus Station.

A new format has been devised by organisers for next month’s event due to the torrential rain and flash floods, which almost forced the cancellation of last year’s festival and caused extensive damage to the fields.

Continued poor weather in recent months has prevented reinstatement works meaning the festival has had to be moved indoors to Bishop Auckland College’s Woodhouse Lane campus for this year, although a family fairground will also operate outdoors over the weekend.

Ticket prices for the Saturday indoor stage, with Circuit 68, Midway Arcadia and Playmaker, cost £4 (£2 for under-14s who must be accompanied by an adult). Doors are open from 12noon to 9pm and a public bar is available.

Ticket prices for the Proms on Sunday in the Sports Hall cost £8 (£4 for under-14s who must be accompanied by an adult) and £20 for a family ticket (2+2). Doors open 6pm with the concert from 7.30pm and alcoholic drinks and picnics are allowed. Spectators can bring their own camping chair, or hire one for £1.

Organisers recommend advance purchase of tickets to avoid disappointment due to limited capacity indoors.
Tickets are available from Bishop Auckland College and Bishop Auckland Town Hall Box Office (call 03000 269524).
