Dear Editor,
Further to your article regarding the treatment of food waste, I thought Darlington and Durham dealt with their waste differently but having looked at Durham’s information again it has changed since our caddies were delivered.
We were informed we could only use compostable bags which are useless, the web site now says:
“You do not have to use a caddy liner, we are providing your first roll which will be delivered with your caddy. You can use any liner you prefer such as compostable liners, newspaper or paper bags, carrier bags, food packaging such as bread bags, frozen vegetable bags or cereal bags, used fridge and freezer storage bags or plastic bags bought on a roll. All liners will be removed at the treatment plant through an automated process before the food waste is treated.”
You can find out all the information at this link: https://www.durham.gov.uk/foodwasteresidents.
Would you please let the residents of Ferryhill and Chilton know they can now use any plastic bag. Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Carole Hubery, Chilton
