A jam packed Locomotion Museum hosted Brick Alley’s eighth annual LEGO event last weekend with over seventy exhibits and stalls to the delight of LEGO enthusiasts of all ages.
A footfall of over 5,000 saw vendors, volunteers and families travelling from all over the UK to attend the festival in Shildon.
Richard from Brick Alley Events was thrilled with the weekend.
He said: “It just gets better each year!
“The skill level of building these intricate scenes is just phenomenal.
“It’s great to see the children’s enthusiasm for creating their own versions and how LEGO can bring together people from different generations.“
The many unique models on display filled the main hall and showcased delights from competitors like Steve Thomas who had created mechanical LEGO robots including a Rubik’s Cube solving robot which wowed the audience, some of which tried their hardest to solve the puzzle and beat the robot.
Other displays included large town scenes that were lit and populated with many mini figures, huge stadiums, zoos, theme park Jurassic Dinosaurs, Harry Potter exhibits and even model trains that were particularly appropriate for the Locomotion setting.
There were even several detailed pictures made entirely from LEGO that depicted scenes such as lighthouses and Star Wars characters such as storm troopers and Princess Leia.
The competitors were awarded various prizes from best in show to even fun ones like the most windows included in their display.
There were a few areas where children could have hands on experience creating their own LEGO models and they could also enter a competition to win four different LEGO sets.
Children had to hunt for specific mini figures that each carried a letter which together spelled a word – a great incentive for children to take the time to really look at the exhibits.
It’s safe to say most children that left the exhibition were planning to add LEGO to their Christmas list!
