On Saturday 19 October a great deal of work by many residents resulted in a hugely successful race night with proceeds going to the Spennymoor based Learning Library, reports Ian Machin.
The event was hosted by Michael and his Daleside Arms team in Croxdale. It was run by Durham Lions, with races sponsored by eight businesses in the town as well as being match funded by Lloyds Bank, Spennymoor.
Over seventy local residents supported and attended the race night which raised a much needed £1,620 for the Learning Library. Well done and thanks to everyone involved for their support and generosity.
There were lots of laughs, sighs and cheering, with highs and lows for punters as horses fell, surged or didn’t do either in the nine races gamed on the lounge TV.
There were winners and losers on the raffle too but with thirteen prizes, lots of attendees did not go home empty handed.
Based in Spennymoor, delivering to and helping families across County Durham, the Learning Library loans out various resources (free to families) for all ages (mostly children) who have additional needs.
These include larger games and toys, sensory boxes, swings, spinning chairs and more. Often these things are too expensive for individual families to buy themselves.
The Learning Library also supports schools.
