“On Saturday, October 25 despite threats of bad weather, with lots of preparation and support from sponsors and friends, many residents came together to hold a hugely successful race night with proceeds going to the Learning Library”, writes a spokesperson.
“Hosted by Michael and his Daleside Arms team in Croxdale, with help from businesses in the town (see the photo attached for sponsors) and support from the Daleside, we had a successful night, despite health bugs keeping several attendees unwell at home.
“After explanations of how the race night would work, attendees got down to the important business of studying form (not too closely) and making their bets.
“We had 2+ hours of trying to pick a winner and place bets, with not much help from the race commentator. With several photo finishes there were lots of sighs, cheering, with highs and lows in each race.
“The racing was punctuated by a raffle at half time.
“The race night raised a much needed £951 for the Learning Library. Well done and a huge thanks to everyone involved.
“Please watch out for future events supporting the Learning Library. We are planning another quiz night at the Daleside Arms on Saturday, March 28, 2026. All teams beware, we believe that the Current Quiz Champions, are keen to defend their title.”
The Learning Library is a registered charity, based in Spennymoor. They deliver to and help to support families across Co Durham.
They provide a unique service of loaning out specialist equipment to anyone with additional needs in Co Durham, on a short term loan, completely free of charge.
They support 600+ families currently and several schools are also customers. 90% of those helped are under 18.
Their resources vary widely covering many family themes and needs. There is a growing need – and a waiting list – for much of the equipment provided, so fundraising events do make a difference.
