Earlier in the month new local community interest company, Bright Futures Ferryhill, held their official launch event at Ferryhill Sport and Education Centre.
The event was a chance for members of the public, families of current users, local and county councillors and family and friends to go along and hear all about the work of the new enterprise.
Founder, Hannah Wilkinson introduced herself and gave an overview of the projects currently being delivered, which include a weekly youth club, a family party, one off events including movie nights and pamper parties, and also spoke to their plans for the year.
Plans include a ‘gifted and talented’ scheme, referral schemes with local organisations and clubs and opportunities for trips and further events and activities.
Three children, Ella Wilkinson, Imogen Pallister and Cooper-James Parsons, who currently attend youth club, then very bravely spoke in front of the room full of people with a speech they had individually written themselves.
“I used to be bored on an evening but now I can come to youth club”, was one comment made; “I wish it was on more” and “my favourite activity is crafts, sports and discos” were some of the others.
Hannah and the children were then presented with a cheque for £900 from town councillors David Farry and Sue Jones, from their Members Initiative Funds.
County councillor, Curtis Bihari then shared a few words about the need for an organisation like Bright Futures Ferryhill and the benefits this will have on children across the town.
The event finished with networking over a cuppa and cake, along with some school games and colouring for the children.
