How quickly the seasons and weather change, writes Glenn Gibson. From enjoying the warm weather sat outside the front of the Resthouse to probably moving inside for the autumn and winter.
But being veterans, forward planning was already in place and the layout of furniture inside the Resthouse has been altered so more can sit inside. That large conference table is a bit of a hinderance.
This also had to be done because this September’s get together is Curry Day, as is October’s meeting.
Many thanks to Wellbeing for Life for getting funding and putting this on for the veterans over the coming months. Don’t worry if you don’t like curry as the normal donations of food from Shildon Alive will also be available.
So, get yourself down if you are a veteran and try the spicy Asian flavours that will be cooked.
The August get together was a low-key affair with people on holiday or looking after children during the school holidays. Everyone enjoyed the day, but surprisingly had all vanished by 1.30pm.
Just a reminder that the Veterans Hub is supporting the Shildon Branch Royal British Legion for their sponsored sleep out in Hackworth Park, booked for Saturday 28 September from 12 noon to Sunday 29th.
This will be to highlight homelessness amongst ex-forces personnel, to raise funds for the RBL, veterans charities and some local organisations.
If anyone is interested in taking part or willing to donate, the chairman of the Shildon Branch RBL will be with us this month and will gratefully receive any donations or registrations to take part.
The Shildon Branch Royal British Legion meet in the Railway Institute on the second Tuesday of each month at 8pm.
As always, thanks to those organisations who continue to support us month after month: Shildon Town Council, Shildon Alive and Health Express.
