It is with great regret and sadness that this will be the last meeting for the Veterans Hub for the foreseeable future and the final get together will be on Wednesday 18 March 11.00am to 2.00pm, at the Resthouse, Hackworth Park, Shildon, DL4 1DW, where there will be bacon butties available.
With dwindling numbers of persons attending, it has not become viable for it to continue in its present format, and any remaining funds will be used to support projects linked to the Armed services.
Various ideas and changes have been made to attract increased attendance but to no avail and this decision has not been made lightly, but it is hoped that it may resurrect in the future as the Council are in talks with potential Armed Forces Charities that could combine an outreach day with the Hub. However, this is still ongoing and some months down the line.
The Resthouse was a beautiful location overlooking the park with fantastic views. Space for children to play and dogs to walk which makes this an ideal spot to sit and relax, enjoy a chat and a cuppa.
The Veterans Hub was set up, for a place where Veterans who needed support could come and be aided towards the specific direction for help. A place where Veterans can apply for their armed Forces Veterans card which allows discounts in a wide variety of retail outlets and eateries.
However, there are still a lot of things happening for Veterans in Shildon, the Shildon Branch – Royal British Legion (2nd Tuesday of Month from 7.00pm in the Institute) & the Masonic Veterans breakfast club.
