Kate Avery ranked UK number one

Shildon RAC member Kate Avery continued her indoor college campaign over in New York recently, with a sub 9 minute pb over 3000m on the 15th February and victory in the MAAC Indoor Championships on the 21st. Kate is now ranked UK no.1 over 3000m and deserves congratulations on a fine winter campaign.

On 20th February another of our young ambassadors returned to action. After his debut at the British Indoor Championships, Cameron Boyek took to action in the Armagh 5k road race. Cameron completed the course in 14m 30s, which earned him a fine 15th placing.

Back in England The National Cross Country Championships took centre stage this week in Nottingham, and a handful of Shildon athletes made the journey to the east midlands venue to find the course was running mostly firm on a bright sunny day.

The u13 boys were represented by Ryan Watson who finished in 14m 14s. Ethan Edwards, Harrison Dalglish and Cameron Stainsby made up the U15b team with Cameron being the first counter in 17m 02s. Ethan followed in 17m 46s and Harrison completed the team in 18m 37s. The u13g race saw Meg Gibson compete in her first major cross country and she rose to the occasion finishing in an excellent time of 14m 45s.

Elizabeth Wood was Shildon’s sole competitor in the junior women’s race and she completed the course in 28m 33s.  The youngest park runner has also had a busy last few weeks with 10 year-old Chloe Fairclough completing her 22nd park run at Sedgefield on the 15th February. In the race Chloe not only finished 1st in her age category but also 1st female from over 120 entrants.

On the 22nd Chloe competed in the Gibside park run where she out-sprinted her father in the home straight to claim 50th place in a field of over 260 runners. Chloe was also 2nd female home in the race and 1st in her age group.

Hackworth park run no.49 on the 15th Feb saw Dave Beadle claim victory in a pb of 21m 12s, while Ian Rudge and Gary Bainbridge carried the flag for Hackworth’s Shildon contingent on the 22nd.
