Shildon Railway Cricket Club held its Annual Juniors’ Presentation Night on Thursday 30th November at the B.R. Social Club.
Chairman John Brennan welcomed players, their families, guests, supporters and councillors Gary Huntingdon and Henry Nicholson, the town mayor. He then spoke of the importance of the junior players to the future of the club and thanked everyone who had helped throughout the season, especially coaches John Young, Malcolm Dover, Chris Young and David Penfold. Malcolm Dover then went on to give a synopsis of a successful season, the highlight of which was the Under 13s winning of the Durham Cricket Board Shield. Councillor Gary Huntingdon then presented each player with a participation trophy, before handing out the individual awards to the following. A.Horner (catch of the season), C.Stout (best bowling average), L.Hallimond (best batting average), D.Rutherford (best attitude), R.Sleep (best bowling performance), T.Gillette (best batting performance), and J.Aitken (most improved batsman).
The John Raw Trophy, awarded for the most improved player, went to A.O’Hara. The club wishes to thank all who donated prizes for the raffle, Mrs. Audrey Armitage, whose generous donation purchased the trophies, Mr. John Pollock, who has generously purchased a club cricket shirt for each junior player for next season, and Mrs. Maureen Young who provided a delicious buffet on the evening.
