Staff and volunteers at Jubilee Fields Community Centre are celebrating this week after the news of a successful bid to the National Lottery Communities Fund. The centre secured over £93,000 funding to help with running costs over the next three years. The money ensures that four members of staff’s wages are paid and thousand of hours of classes, groups and support will continue and be extended.
Chair of Jubilee Fields, Hannah Hanratty, congratulated the staff for all their hard work in completing paperwork to gain the much needed funds.
“This centre is a lifeline to so many people,” she said, “and to know that we can run for another three years and have the chance to provide more to Shildon’s residents is fantastic.”
Becoming emotional, she confided to the Crier: “We all actually cried when we received the confirmation email saying we had been awarded this fantastic amount, especially knowing what this means to us and the local community.”
Mayor Shirley Quinn added: ”I’m so proud of how the centre has grown and in my eyes gone from strength to strength.
“I remember putting pennies in a row trying to raise funds in years gone by. This award is the highest ever funding for Jubilee fields in over 20 years and I thank the National Lottery for believing and having the foresight to believe that the centre will deliver exceptional service over the next three years.”
The centre is open every weekday and currently every other weekend and provides clubs for children from Sing and Shimmy, playgroups to multi-sports and Jube Kids club.
There are also regular men’s groups, ladies clubs, Slimming World, community bingo, coffee and crafts, breakfast club, luncheon group and sports ability.
