Par for the course as Jess wins fifth county championship

In a home double, Bishop Auckland golfers Jess Hall (centre) and Kathleen Hammerton (right) won their respective tournaments over the bank holiday and celebrated with County Captain, Sue Wright.

During the Bank Holiday weekend, Bishop Auckland Golf Club hosted the Durham County Ladies Golf Association 2023 County Championship. With the course basking in glorious sunshine, players benefitted from first class playing conditions allowing for some great scoring opportunities.

Home player, Jess Hall’s recent good form from playing tournaments in Wales and Ireland continued as she shot 5 under par in the stroke play qualifier then winning her semi-final 5&4 and the final 6&5. This is Jess’s 5th County Championship but particularly special on her home course supported by friends and family.

Played alongside the Championship was the Greener Cup for bronze players and winning by a clear 3 points was Kathleen Hammerton, again a home player. Sue Wright, County Captain and also a member at Bishop Auckland Golf Club, was delighted the club were able to host the Championship and thanked everyone for their contribution both on and off the course.
