Spectrum Roller Skating Club’s Jazzmyn Loring has been selected to skate for Great Britain in an international event in France in November.
Jazzmyn, aged 12, who trains at Sunnydale Leisure Centre in Shildon, had success earlier in the year when she won the silver medal in the Nationals and the title of Vice Champion at the Espoir Ladies Free Skating British Championships, both held at Breydon Arena in Great Yarmouth.
Dream come true
Her passion for roller skating began aged just four when her mum took her to lessons at Spectrum. Immediately she announced she wanted to skate for GB and now, eight years later, her dream is about to come true.
In fact, she had previously been selected for international competition in 2019, but lockdown put paid to the dream on that occasion. But Jazzmyn and Spectrum remained resolute, continuing to train whenever and wherever they could.
And now the hard work and dedication has paid off with Jazzmyn selected by GB Skate Artistic to compete in the Interland Cup in France.
Coach Tracy Stevens, who has trained Jazzmyn for the last eight years said: “Jazzmyn’s natural ability, combined with her resilience, courage and determination are key ingredients to building a champion.
“She has come a long way and I’m privileged to have such a fantastic role model to inspire young skaters coming through the ranks.”
Sponsorship
The club is now looking for sponsorship and any support it can get with donations for fundraisers.
“As artistic roller skating is self-funded,” explained Tracy, “both athlete and coach are expected to find the money for all flights, travel, accommodation, fees and even the Team GB kit.”
Tracy has set up a gofundme page and the club is also launching the Jars for Jazzmyn campaign, where they are asking people to keep their spare change in a jar to donate to the fund.
