In the final article of our series on 1st Ferryhill Scout Group we get to meet the Scout Section (Troop).
The Scout Troop is the third section of the group and is for young people between the ages of 10½ and 14. Young people can join at any point, and you don’t have to had any prior experience.
Scouts are at the age where they can experience the true adventure that scouting has to offer – we aim to give scouts a wide range of experiences so they can learn some new skills along the way.
Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme, with participation being the key approach.
They take part in a balanced programme that helps them find out about the world in which they live; encourages them to know their own abilities and the importance of keeping fit; and helps their creative talents.
It also provides opportunities to explore their own values and personal attitudes.
Being outdoors is exciting and important too. Half the programme is given over to taking part in traditional scouting skills such as camping, survival and cooking as well as a wider spectrum of adventurous activities.
Being a scout is all about discovering the world on your own terms and making the most of what you have, wherever and whoever you are.
Everyone’s welcome here. All genders, races and backgrounds. Regardless of your physical ability – there’s a scout adventure out there waiting for you and we’ll help you find it!
Alongside your new friends, you’ll master the skills that’ll help you weather the storms of life and try things you’d never get the chance to do at home or at school – working with trained volunteers to achieve whatever you set your mind to.
1st Ferryhill Scout Troop meets on Tuesdays from 7pm-9pm during term time. There are spaces available with no waiting list and the first month is free.
