International honours for Clarey

18 year-old Bishop Auckland Rugby Club star Alec Clarey was delighted to be included in the England Under 18 side to face Leicester Academy and Ireland Under 18s on 8th April.

Alec, from Witton Park, plays at prop for Bishop Auckland Academy and 1st XV at Barnard Castle School and is due to sign contracts at Leicester Tigers as a full time professional.

He is the first international player from Bishop Auckland Rugby Club, where he started playing only four years ago at the age of 14.

By 15, Alec had made his debut for Durham County and at 16 was awarded a rugby scholarship to Barnard Castle School.

Bishop Auckland coach Steve Colwell stated, “It is a testament to his hard work and dedication that Alec has been selected to play for England.

He has obviously got a huge talent – but works hard every day to condition himself for rugby. He has been a key figure in the club for a few years now and every player and member is incredibly proud of him.”

England were narrowly defeated by Leicester, 28-25.
