A doctor from Durham University is undertaking research in Shildon in order to measure the level of wellbeing in the town and to evaluate the benefit of the Health Express programme.
Dr Shelina Visram is hoping to use the data to help design local services and facilities to better meet local needs and improve people’s health and wellbeing.
The wellbeing survey for Shildon, funded by Durham County Council, is based on input from local volunteers and practitioners and includes questions developed as part of the Government’s National Wellbeing Measurement Programme.
Dr Visram stated, “As far as we’re aware, this is the first time anyone has tried to measure personal wellbeing at a local level on this sort of scale, so what we’re trying to do is really innovative.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for people to have their say about life in Shildon and will only require 10 minutes of their time.”
Eleven local volunteers have been trained and will begin conducting the survey from next week on an ad-hoc basis around the town until April.
