County Councillor Liz Maddison has provided an update on activities:
We met with the Government’s Towns‘ representative in Spennymoor last week. The appointment of a local Chair for the new Town Board is in progress. This position is a key role in leading and coordinating the work of the proposed new board.
We have met the local police to discuss issues in the town and learned that the utilisation of mobile CCTV cameras supplied from AAP funding and controlled by the police has been resolved ready for their use across the town.
The annual Big Spring Clean, organised by the Civic Pride team, is back in Spennymoor. The team are offering free litter picking equipment for a commitment to attend a few litter picking sessions.
We are meeting with them at Green Lane Council Offices for a litter pick around Tudhoe Moor & Low Spennymoor. On Saturday morning there is a litter pick on the Auckland Walk, meeting at Rosa Street School. For more on this annual event see durham.gov.uk/bigspringclean.
We have visited Spennymoor Boxing Club and seen their recently expanded youth team in training.
Spennymoor Youth Theatre Group put on a show of their Forbidden Planet production and Spennymoor Youth Band continue to entertain us. We hope to visit more of our incredibly talented groups in the future.
Graffiti has been removed from the Carr Lane underpass and the drains cleared of leaves and mud.
Double yellow lines have now been fully refreshed along the full length of Carr Lane.
Streetlights out and more potholes have been identified across both Divisions. Thanks to Clean and Green, Lighting, and Highways Teams for their quick response in resolving issues.
The protected right hand turn (PRT), footpath widening and lighting from Burton Woods exit to Whitworth Road and down to Paige Grove is making good progress with the PRT scheme expected to start in early summer, subject to draft agreements being approved and street works permits given.
Snagging jobs have been identified that once fully completed will enable the adoption of the estate up to phase 4, Lotherton Drive. We are asking if completion can be on a similar timescale.
