The 2014 cricket season gets underway this weekend and Shildon Railway Cricket Club is looking forward to a busy and productive period.
The 1st XI starts at home against a Ryhope side which is strongly fancied to win the Durham Cricket League 2nd Division title. An intriguing ingredient in the game is the fact that former Shildon player Paul Jenkins will be playing for the visitors, whilst his son Adam will represent the Railwaymen.
The 2nd XI makes the journey to Ryhope in the reverse fixture. The Under 11s team makes its debut on Sunday morning (27th), with a very tough opening fixture at Bishop Auckland, who are also the Under 15s opponents on the evening of Monday 28th at the Sportsfield. The Under 18s however, have the week off, before they also start with a visit to Kingsway on Tuesday 6th May.
The club is still seeking players, especially for its four junior sides and would be delighted to welcome any youngsters along to the junior practices, which are free of charge, and held at the ground each Friday at 6pm.
