Health Express & students pamper residents

Health Express, in partnership with livin and Bishop Auckland College, offered a programme to the elderly tenants of Shildon recently, which involved free pampering, as part of Health and Wellbeing interventions.

Students offering the pampering services were transported from the college by the Health Express minibus.

David Harrison, Trustee of Frank & Phillis Scotto, based in Jersey, who has, in the past two years, donated £350,000 to the Jersey and Bishop Auckland communities, generously purchased the Health Express minibus which helped bring the college to the community.

Health Express, managed by Andrew Walker, has been funded primarily, by County Councillor Brian Stephens from and he was present, alongside fellow County Councillor, Rob Yorke, at the session on Monday 23rd November at the livin communal hall in Rowan Avenue.

The residents were indulged in a spot of pampering by Level One Beauty students, aged between 16 and 21 years, from Bishop Auckland College, who were overseen by Lecturer and Coordinator in Hairdressing and Beauty, Alison Young.

The students started their course in September and were practising the practical skills learned so far.

“All the students are motivated and enjoy working in the community and meeting new clients,” said Alison. “They carried out a mini manicure, which included a hand and arm massage as well as filing and polishing nails with a colour of the client’s choice.”

“It was a relaxing and enjoyable treatment altogether,” said a resident.
