From humble beginnings at Bushy Park in London in 2004 where 13 runners took part in the first event, parkrun has grown to become a national and international phenomenon.
‘parkrun’ is a free weekly timed run organised mostly by volunteers.
It came to Shildon in 2013 and is held at Hackworth Park on Saturday mornings, starting at 9am.
Since it started Shildon parkrun has held 136 runs and played host to over 1000 different runners.
To join, go to www.parkrun.org.uk and register to receive a barcode which will be needed every week in order to get your time and position.
‘parkrun’ is open to everyone of all abilities and all ages. Afterwards, the runners enjoy a cuppa in the Resthouse in the park.
