Shildon Indoor Bowling Club, based at Sunnydale Leisure Centre, is holding a family fun day in aid of the Evergreen Primary School Sunshine Bus Appeal.
The event, which will take place at Sunnydale Leisure Centre between 10.00am and 4.00pm on Saturday, November 21st, will include a raffle, fun and games, a mini bowls competition, fancy dress and bingo. A charity bucket will be at the fun day to take donations and refreshments will be available throughout.
The organisers of the Sunshine Bus Appeal are aiming to raise roughly £5,000, which would enable Evergreen Primary School, in Bishop Auckland, to buy a bus to cater for pupils with special educational needs. A specially-adapted bus is required to enable around 20 students, who use wheelchairs, to attend educational visits, sporting events and trips to theatres.
The organisers hope to raise the necessary funding as soon as possible, so that the children can enjoy a trip during the Christmas season. Evergreen Primary’s headteacher, Tracey Hutchison said, “The school budget is tight. We just don’t have any spare money to meet the shortfall. We are so grateful for the support we’ve had so far, and think that the Variety Club, and the sponsor they have found, are very kind.
“To get the rest of the money and this bus would make a huge difference to our pupils.” Tracey also spoke of the benefits that a new bus would bring to the school’s pupils, she said, “School trips make learning more exciting and fun.
“The children gain so much confidence by taking part in events like sports festivals with other children and visiting new places.”
