Local police have given a Bishop Auckland and Coundon in Bloom project a great boost. Following a successful drugs raid on a property in Durham Road, Bishop Auckland, where cannabis plants were confiscated, local police were left with hundreds of plant pots to dispose of.
After hearing about the groups ambitious plans to bloom up the town from local PC Alistair Johns, PCSO Bethany Thomas and local Inspector Andy Reeves arranged for the pots to be donated to local gardening charity Cultivate 4 Life.
Chair of the Bishop Auckland and Coundon in Bloom group, Joy Allen said: “This is another example of the community community together and working together for a common goal.
“These plant pots will enable volunteers to plant seedlings which will provide much needed flowers for the various displays throughout the town.”
Julie Costello, Project Manager of Cultivate 4 Life said: “We are a small horticultural charity so this donation is very much welcome.
“We work with young people and adults at our allotments and being part of a town wide initiative is very exciting.
“These pots will enable us to grow blooms and donate them to local businesses.”
PCSO Bethany Thomas said: “Cultivate 4 Life is a fantastic scheme which is charity run.
“Giving the plant pots and soil from the cannabis grow to the scheme means that it can be used in a more positive way down at the allotments and will hopefully bring the community together.”
Inspector Andy Reeves said: “We are donating the items to a good cause to assist the group group in making the local area a nicer place through the In Bloom project.”
