Friendly Society girls achieve perfect record

St. Mark’s Girls Friendly Society (GFS) in Eldon, which has been in existence since 1969 and is a girls group attached to the Church of England, was celebrating recently after its girls achieved a 100% pass rate for their year’s exams.

Leader, Janice Clark said, “We are delighted that the girls have achieved this having come close during previous years.

“The girls’ work is independently assessed by visiting adjudicators.

“They have also won a record number of shields.

“To celebrate, we held a short service, followed by a coffee evening on Wednesday 1st July where the girls received their certificates and were presented with their shields by Councillor Trish Pemberton, who was herself a member of the GFS when she was growing up in Liverpool.

“The girls have been brilliant throughout the year,” she added.

The Eldon GFS meet every Wednesday evening from 6.30-8.30pm during term time where they participate in drama, singing, craftwork covering a renage of different activities, sewing, knitting and a variety of games.

The Society is 140 years old this year.
